FaVareli
FaVareli Design School for Kids is a creative studio in Wheeling, Illinois, offering kids and teens (ages 5-19) hands-on classes in fashion drawing, sewing, garment construction and decoration. It features flexible programs including trial lessons, combines art and fashion skills, and is oriented toward fun, expressive learning in a local suburban setting.
My Role
Sketching
At Favareli, I guided students through a four-step design process that allowed them to experience the full journey of creating a garment. We began with sketching, where we watched a film for inspiration and developed mood boards that captured the theme and emotions of the story. From there, I helped the students translate their ideas into a series of ten original sketches.
Samples
We moved into sample development. Using small dress forms, I taught the students how to create miniature sample pieces so they could visualize structure, proportion, and silhouette before committing to their final designs. This step helped them refine their ideas and understand how their concepts would translate into real garments.
The Making
Once their visions were clear, we transitioned into fabric selection and construction. I assisted the students in choosing fabrics that aligned with their designs, then guided them through cutting, sewing, and assembling their final pieces. This stage allowed them to apply technical skills and see their creativity take physical form.
Fashion Show
We concluded the program with a final fashion show where the students proudly showcased their completed looks. I supported them as they styled their outfits with hair, makeup, and accessories, helping them bring their full creative vision to life on the runway.
