Draping
In my Draping class, I learned how to shape fabric directly on the dress form, developing an understanding of silhouette, proportion, and fabric behavior. I created muslins, practiced complex draping techniques, and translated three-dimensional forms into clean, accurate patterns.
For this assignment, I created a garment entirely from thrifted items, transforming secondhand materials into a fully realized dress. I began by deconstructing each piece, studying the fabrics, and planning how to repurpose them into a cohesive design. Throughout the process, I saw my skills progress—from pattern manipulation to construction—refining each step as I went. By problem-solving, adjusting details, and staying patient with the process, I successfully turned unconventional materials into a finished dress that showcased both creativity and craftsmanship.
